The European Union agreed to further delay and weaken a central forest protection law after negotiators from the European Parliament and EU member states reached an agreement.Anna Cavazzini warned that this postponement could allow more forest destruction, while both the Parliament and member states must still formally approve the amendment to the 2023 initiative established during Ursula von der Leyen's first term.EU's Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall announced the law, which aims to ban imports of products from newly cleared rainforest land, will now take effect on December 30, 2026.
