Nemo, the 26-year-old Swiss winner of the "Eurovision Song Contest" 2024 with the song "The Code," returned their trophy to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in protest of Israel's continued participation. The non-binary artist stated that the trophy no longer belonged on their shelf, citing a conflict between the contest's ideals of unity and inclusion and Israel's actions, as the EBU faced criticism for not suspending Israel despite UN-mandated findings. This protest has prompted Iceland, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Slovenia to announce their boycott of the "Eurovision Song Contest" 2026, which will be held in Vienna.
