Carl Carlton, born Carlton Hudgens, has died at age 73, his son Carlton Hudgens II announced on Facebook, saying, “RIP Dad, Legend Carl Carlton, singer of ‘She’s a Bad Mama Jama,’” and adding that his father can finally rest. The Detroit-born R&B and funk singer rose to fame in the 1970s with a Top 10 hit for his cover of “Everlasting Love,” scored a 1981 hit and Grammy nomination for “She’s a Bad Mama Jama,” and received tributes from bands such as Confunkshun and DJs including DJ D-Nice while no cause of death has been released.
