The FDA has upgraded a recall of more than 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese across 31 states and Puerto Rico to Class II, citing potential metal fragment contamination that could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects.Great Lakes Cheese Co. initiated the recall in October, affecting multiple private store brands at major retailers including Aldi, Target, Walmart, Publix, and Laura Lynn, with products such as mozzarella, Italian style, and blended cheeses carrying sell-by dates in February and March 2026.Separately, Ambriola Company and Wegmans are recalling Pecorino Romano cheese due to listeria, urging consumers to return products for a refund and consult a doctor if symptoms occur.
