The German Defence Ministry says the initiative involves approximately 545 billion kronor in military purchases spread over about 30 procurements, following a parliamentary defence committee approval of nearly €50 billion in emergency spending to urgently equip the Bundeswehr. The extensive list covers missiles, air defence and radar systems, armoured vehicles, soldier equipment including uniforms and protective gear, and specific proposals already in ministry files such as about 600 loitering munitions for Panzer Brigade 45, tests with start‑ups and Rheinmetall, a roughly €700 million contract with Elbit Systems for SkyStriker and a proposed €6 billion purchase of long‑range glide weapons. The ministry said the purchases respond to Russia's aggression in Ukraine and U.S. pressure for Europeans to shoulder more NATO responsibility, but critics — including Sara Nanni, Christian Mölling, Max Mutschler and Michael Brzoska — and rights groups such as the Red Cross warned of legal, ethical and escalation risks while Boris Pistorius seeks procurement law changes and Parliament prepares final decisions.
