Carl Erik Rinsch was convicted of wire fraud and money laundering after a jury found he diverted $11 million that Netflix had advanced to finish the unfinished sci-fi series "White Horse" into personal accounts and speculative investments.Netflix executives including Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander testified they were blown away by Rinsch's footage, noting he had directed Keanu Reeves in "47 Ronin" and was a protégé of Ridley Scott, and they granted him final-cut privilege after he filmed material in Brazil, Uruguay and Hungary under the codename Conquest.Prosecutors said Rinsch spent millions on luxury cars, watches and bedding rather than completing the project, the jury found him guilty on all counts, sentencing will take place in April 2026, and Jay Clayton said the conviction shows prosecutors will follow the money and hold people who steal from investors accountable.
