The Trump administration announced new federal rules to block medical care for transgender minors, following an earlier HHS package that proposed cutting Medicare and Medicaid payments to hospitals that provide puberty blockers, hormones and surgeries to people under 19.HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and CMS administrator Mehmet Oz said the measures would bar hospitals from participating in Medicare and Medicaid if they continue offering those treatments, and HHS also plans FDA warning letters to sellers of chest binders and an NIH pause of gender-transition research.Medical groups including AAP, ACOG and APA and civil-rights organizations such as the ACLU vowed legal challenges, warning that the proposals endanger patients and families and will prompt immediate court battles.
