Rome will impose a €2 surcharge on nonresidents stepping onto the Trevi Fountain’s recessed edge between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. starting Feb. 1, 2026, aiming to manage overcrowding and generate roughly €7 million annually after similar measures at the Pantheon and Venice’s day-tripper tax.Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said that residents and exempt groups will continue to enjoy free access under a new €5 museum ticket fee and broader waivers and that the funds will cover maintenance, beautification and safety of public spaces.
