A federal judge in Washington declined to impose an immediate halt on White House renovations after the National Trust sued over the abrupt demolition of the East Wing, saying the preservationists did not prove irreparable harm but cautioning work should be limited to underground sections.Judge Richard Leon allowed construction to continue while imposing narrow restrictions, left open further judicial review and a preliminary injunction hearing is scheduled for the second week of January, and he ordered the government to submit plans to the National Capital Planning Commission by the end of the year.Preservationists say the project violated NEPA and the Administrative Procedure Act after crews tore into the 1902-era East Wing for a roughly $300 million, privately funded ballroom proposed by Donald Trump and backed by donors including Meta, Palantir, Google and Amazon, while the government and the Secret Service say agencies coordinated and salvaged historic materials.
