A McKinsey Global Institute analysis finds that tasks filling more than half of U.S. work hours could, in theory, be automated with existing technologies, following earlier warnings that AI can be both stunningly capable and prone to basic failures.Based on task-level analysis of more than 800 occupations and 6,800 skills, the report says AI will change work rather than fully replace workers, highlights a sevenfold rise in demand for AI tool skills, and estimates AI could unlock nearly $2.9 trillion in U.S. economic value by 2030 if organizations redesign workflows.
