Catherine Almonte Da Costa resigned after old antisemitic social media posts resurfaced, following her announcement as Zohran Mamdani’s director of appointments.The Anti-Defamation League posted X messages from 2011 and 2012 that included phrases such as “Money hungry Jews smh” and a post calling a line “the Jew train,” and Dora Pekec confirmed Da Costa turned in her resignation after she apologized and said she felt deep remorse as the mother of Jewish children.Mamdani accepted the resignation as he faces pressure to reassure Jewish communities while building a largely unfilled transition that so far has retained Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, and reactions ranged from Halie Soifer’s approval to a defense from Da Costa’s husband, Ricky Da Costa.
